PostSubject: Hayate the Combat Butler   Sat Oct 11, 2008 12:08 pm

Hayate Ayasaki is an unlucky teenager who worked since childhood to make ends meet due to his parents' irresponsible behavior. One day he finds out that his parents ran away from home, leaving behind a massive gambling debt on his shoulders. While running away from the debt collectors, he ends up meeting Nagi Sanzen'in, a young girl who is the sole heir of the wealthy Sanzen'in estate, and due to a misunderstanding, Nagi ends up falling in love with Hayate. After he rescues Nagi from some kidnappers, she hires Hayate as her new butler.

Aside from performing his ordinary duties as a butler, Hayate must fight to protect Nagi from harm, a difficult task as her life is always in danger because she is the target of other individuals coveting her family's fortune, and sometimes deal with some extravagant requests from her, oblivious to Nagi's true feelings for him.

I enjoyed Hayate. It doesn't take itself too seriously but still follows a central plot. The humor is just my style also.

I love the art, even though it is "simplistic" I think it's detailed in its own way. And it keeps me interested with its variety of humor, and its plot gets interesting, especially after chapter 30. Things start kicking off after Hayate defeats that giant robot.

The entire situation that Hayate is stuck in makes the series funny. The girls he meets along the way are unique and funny. Now this is a series that I can't tell who the main character is going to end up with.

Gave up the anime halfway through the third episode. Even now I still can't see the appeal of this series.

Generally for me, if a comedy doesn't make me go within three anime episodes or five manga chapters then it's not for me. If you want a really good comedy, I suggest Sket Dance. It isn't a normal shounen battle manga like the name may make it sound like but actually it's closer to a slice of life comedy. It does have its crowning moments of awesome and heartwarming making it a pretty good read. Plus, the only other manga to have made me laugh so much was Seto no Hanayome and you know how awesome that is.

Really
Vol 12 was a drag, I don't know why
And we've got vol 13 all prepared
