Question:
Is chinese writing the same enough that a chinese person can read japanese and vise versa? What can be done, like just changing the styling around to match the language?

According to my grandfather, who's a native Chinese-speaker, it doesn't work that way. He can recognize characters in Japanese newspapers but that's about it. Mind you, that's just kanji. Kana is purely Japanese, which has a different structure and vocabulary from Chinese, so that's out of the question. I could explain in more detail but I doubt anybody's interested.

I know Kana is a solely japanese. But if a chinese reader puts his/her mind to it, can they read it? Or absolutely no?

You're missing the point. Japanese and Chinese are NOT the same language, regardless of certain similarities in their respective representations in print form. Let me put it this way, could you read Japanese if someone wrote it in an alphabet you understood? The answer is 'no', right? But what if you "put your mind to it"? Still no, right?
