I Want To Be A Typesetter!!

Hi, I am interested in typesetting. I can only do it for about half an hour every second day though because I am currently a high school student. I was referred to this site by a scanlator who said you guys needed a typesetter, I am a newbie so please be kind!! (I mean a newbie with typesetting not forums Smile

) So, thank you if you accept me !!

It doesn't really matter if you have any skill, typesetting is something you learn from experience. And we'll teach you how as long as you are willing to learn.

Do you really need a test to be a typesetter? I think, as long as you have the software and the will to actually do the work, anybody can do it. It's not like cleaning, typesetting is easy, and any mistakes are easy to correct.

Yes we do need something. They do need to say what software they are using to typeset, and they need to know at least the basics(e.g. what fonts to use, to center the text, etc.).

Edit: I had an idea. You could clone the Typesetting tutorial thread and make that a must read or something..

Heylo fellow typesetters! I would like to join your lovely(?) group!
I use photoshop cs2 (and sometimes paintshop pro 9).

@Achi: As for fonts, I don't know your requirements, but this is what I had been noticing lately. Please correct me in the right fonts that the group generally use:
- Normal Dialogue: Anime Ace
- Side notes/comments: Radiohead
- Main SFX: Pigae or Twelve Ton Goldfish
- Scratchy SFX: Chicken scratch, Chiller
- Phone: any thin and sans-serif
(and probably some more depending on the requirements)

Normal text font sizes are usually at 11 pt, no smaller than 10 pt if required.

Texts should be closer to the bottom than the top as it deceives the eye and makes it look more centered.

Um...anything else I should add or know about? Not sure what else to add, but hopefully, that sort of does it? By the way, I'm quite inexperience in this, so I may take quite a bit of time to typeset, especially for sfx.

Pretty close, cept we use Wild Words instead of AnimeAce I believe. Seems like you have the basic know-how. It's all experience, so I think you'll be doing fine in no time. Hope you make it

Pretty good. We normally use Wild Words for normal dialogue though. And our normal text size is 14. I had a Typesetting Tutorial thread that had all our specifications and a download link for our fonts but Somebody deleted it when cleaning the site of "Useless Things". I'll get it back up eventually.

I would prefer to see a sample of her work like meow said before making any decisions. Anyone can talk but can you back it up.
